Cricket is about to resume as the situation becomes better. England continues its training from this week, West Indies also resumed training to gear up for the England series. As the situation becomes better now, there is a lot of expectations of conducting IPL this October and ICC T20 World Cup shifting to next year.

IPL? Whether it happens or not?

At any cost, BCCI trying to conduct the IPL because the revenue generated from the IPL is more compared to what they get from T20 WC.

It is expected that T20 WC will get postponed to next year and IPL 2020 will be scheduled in October. But there is a problem for Australian cricketers, they need to choose between the Australian domestic season or the IPL 2020. The 17 top players of Australia are contracted by different franchises. There is a total deal of 86.5 Crore taken by 17 Australian Players. It will be interesting to see "what they choose between two".

Pat Cummins has the highest deal among the Australian players with 15.5 Cr to Kolkatta Knight Riders. He feels playing IPL helps him a lot to learn and excel in India's conditions.

It's not necessarily a new problem; we've had the Champions League in that time of the year for probably half a dozen years which has clashed with the domestic schedule here, so I'm sure whatever the solution we'll sort it out - Pat Cummins
Cummins feels spending some time with cricket greats helps him to perform well in pressure situations. Rahul Dravid was his Coach when he played for Dehli Daredevils.

Each time I’ve played, I’ve felt like I’ve learnt a lot in those six or seven weeks - Pat Cummins written in Australia website.
But the management also in dilemma to allow players to participate in IPL. It becomes a debate between Australian legends and the current players where most of the senior players feel not to allow players and play in the Australian domestic season. Former Australia players Ian Chappel and Allan Border feels CA should keep their players at home to play their domestic season. But the current players are more attracted to IPL.

Australian Pacer Mitchell Starc also urged CA to allow their players to participate in IPL. It's difficult to choose between domestic cricket and the International League.

Mitchell Starc doesn't seem to have an issue with it? All CA contracts and domestic contracts are pre-existed and if they are clear to go, he urged Cricket Australia to send them for IPL. He doesn't see a problem with it.

Former Australia Captain and Board member Mark Taylor feel it's difficult for CA almost like a juggling act.

The players contracted by different IPL franchises are

  • Pat Cummins (KKR)
  • Chris Green (KKR)
  • Steven Smith (RR)
  • David Warner (SRH)
  • Glenn Maxwell (KXIP)
  • Nathan Counter-Nile (MI)
  • Marcus Stoinis (DC)
  • Aaron Finch (RCB)
  • Alex Carey (DC)
  • Shane Watson (CSK)
  • Kane Richardson (RCB)
  • Josh Philippe (RCB)
  • Josh Hazlewood (CSK)
  • Andrew Tye (RR)
  • Mitch Marsh (SRH)
  • Billy Stanlake (SRH)
  • Chris Lynn (MI)

I think it's easy for CA contracted players to choose IPL over domestic cricket because they are contracted and be in the Australian squad for most tours. But for players like Stoinis, Tye, Stanlake, Lynn, Philippe who has been out of CA contract they need to play domestic cricket to prove themselves to be back in the Australian squad. It would be interesting to watch players choosing their contracts.

Crowds will be allowed or not allowed will depend on the government guidelines and situation later in October.
