Why IPL is so important for BCCI?

We all know that IPL is the best League in the World. Today's situation is worse and BCCI couldn't manage to schedule IPL. Why IPL is so important for BCCI?   Read this article completely

Despite the threat, India BCCI president Sourav Ganguly decided to start the IPL on 29th March. After that, the Health Advisory issued a notice "there should be no public gathering at any sports event". That was sent as a counter to Ganguly to stop IPL. Then, he decided to postpone the league to 15th April i.e Post Lockdown. As the Lockdown extended till 3rd May Ganguly declared IPL postponed Indefinitely until further notice. There should be a reason for postponing IPL despite canceling because a lot of revenue for BCCI comes from IPL.

The amount of money earned per match is like

For every Ball bowled in IPL, BCCI earns a phenomenal 23 Lakh Rupees. This is the main reason BCCI finds it difficult to cancel the IPL.

Sourav Ganguly stated in Conference "To cancel a match it just needs 48 hours, but to organize it needs weeks of Planning". More than 70 Overseas players come to play IPL, 12 Elite Umpires and Match Referees, Commentators from different countries, Cameraman, Journalists, Sponsors...etc.

Ganguly decided to keep paperwork ready for visas of 150 individuals contracted by them. Once the Lockdown ends, they can arrive quickly. And IPL without foreign players is like any other Local tournament and may cancel if foreign players not available.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a lot of series get canceled such as IND vs SA series, The Hundred League by England and Wales..etc. There are still chances of conducting IPL if the BCCI follow these rules

• Not using saliva to shine the ball
• No Handshakes
• No Post Match Conference
• No Spectators

If the Lockdown ends on 3rd May and if IPL starts on mid-may it should possible to complete the Tournament by mid-June. That's the only way if it starts in June, most of the matches are spoiled due to heavy Indian monsoons. For every week lost, BCCI needs to reduce the matches. Also, there is an ICC T20 World Cup in October-November in Australia.

Considering the above cases, Bowlers find it difficult if they were not able to shine the ball. They can use sweat instead of saliva to find their swing. And Handshakes can be replaced by another way of greeting such as Namaste! or Fist Bump. 

IPL is well known for its Indian fans and Crowd, they used to celebrate every ball when their franchise hits four, six, or takes a wicket. What if there are no Spectators, Cameraman shows the crowd dancing, trying to catch the ball, beautiful ladies over the ground, and the crowd running into the ground...etc. BCCI wants to try to play India vs South Africa without spectators but the series was canceled. The ODI match between Australia vs New Zealand was organized without spectators. Former Australia Captain Ian Chappel described "It was so silent, you could hear yourself think."

Since its start, IPL never gets canceled or postponed. However in 2009, due to the local elections IPL held in South Africa. And in 2011, instead of round-robin matches, they divided the franchises into two groups of four each, and the top two teams from each group entering semis. Also, IPL 2014 is held in UAE. However, there is talk going on that Sri Lanka is ready to conduct IPL 2020. If it happens that is a major boost for the Sri Lankan Board in terms of revenue and publicity.

Cricket is Religion in India. Thousands come to the stadium and more than 450 million people watch it live on TV and 15 million on devices with a total consumption of 338 billion minutes in 2019. If IPL 2020 is played without spectators who knowns it may break all viewership records.
