IPL 2008- MI vs RCB :

Its actually 5th match of season and 1st for MI. Mumbai scored 165-6 in 1st innings sets a target of 166 for RCB. Back then, it is one of the strongest teams with the likes of Chanderpaul, Dravid, R Taylor, J Kallis, Virat Kohli, and Boucher. RCB successfully chased 166 in 19.4 overs.

Result: RCB won by 5 wickets

IPL 2009- CSK vs MI :

Similar to IPL 2020, it was the 1st match of the season. Similar to 2008, MI scored 165 in 1st Innings. The outstanding spell by Malinga 4-0-15-3 helped MI to clinch their victory

Result: MI won by 19 runs

IPL 2010- MI vs RR : 

It's 2nd match of the season and this is one of the best matches in IPL. MI scored 212-6 in 1st innings with an excellent inning from Rayudu(55) and S Tiwary(53). Yusuf Pathan took it seriously after the loss of their top-order and scored 100(37). Back then, it was the fastest century in IPL until Chris Gayle scored a century off 30 balls. But RR failed to get over the line, lost by 4 runs.

IPL 2011- MI vs DD:

It's 4th match of the season. DD has a bad start to their season as they were crushed by MI for 95. Malinga has taken 13-5 and MI won the game by 8 wickets.

IPL 2012- MI vs CSK:

It's again MI vs CSK in 1st game of the season. It's really a great fight between these two as CSK all out for 112 in 19.5 overs and it's a simple game for MI with its strongest squad.

IPL 2013- MI vs RCB:

RCB breaks the streak of MI winning 1st matches of the season. Jasprit Bumrah made his debut for MI and IPL in this match and picked 3 wickets. They are Virat Kohli, M Agarwal, and K Nair. RCB scored 156 with a loss of 5 wickets. MI failed to chase 157 and fell short off 2 runs.

IPL 2014- MI vs KKR :

There is a connection between the 2014 IPL and 2020 IPL as the initial half of IPL is played in UAE. And What if I say MI failed to win 1 match in UAE? It's true.

Coming to the match, KKR scored 163-5 in 1st innings and result as I mentioned above. Also, it is 1st match of the season.

Similar to the previous season, it is against the same opponent and 1st match. This time MI try to take over KKR and scored 168-3 in 1st Innings with an excellent knock from Rohit Sharma(98*) but Gambhir(57) and Pathan(46) helped KKR win.

IPL 2016- MI vs RPS :

It's not different from MI vs CSK matches as most of the CSK players are in RPS after the CSK ban. MI won the toss and scored 121-8 in 1st innings. RPS successfully chased 122 in 14.4 overs as Rahane scored 66*(42).

Result: RPS won by 9 wickets

IPL 2017- MI vs RPS:

It's MI vs RPS again facing in 2nd match of the season. Again MI continues its losing streak after a great inning from Steven Smith 84*(54) helped RPS to win by 7 wickets.

IPL 2018- MI vs CSK:

It's 1st game of the season after the CSK ban and the great rivalry continues. Many of you remember this epic match as it was one of the great chases by CSK. MI set a target of 166 when CSK was at the stage of 75-5 DJ Bravo played the best innings of his batting career. He also smashed 3 sixes off Bumrah in the penultimate over of the game. Finally, Kedar Jadhav comeback from injury and scored 6,4 to win the game for CSK.

Result: CSK won by 1 wicket

IPL 2019- MI vs DC :

After MI won the toss and elected to bowl first, there was complete destruction from Pant as he scored 78*(27) striking at 288.89. MI failed to chase and continues its losing streak.

Result: DC won by 37 runs

In conclusion, Mumbai Indians have won every opening game from 2008 to 2012. After Rohit elected as Captain of MI, they didn't win any opening games. But this is not the end result, they ended up as Champions four times since 2013.

In 2015, MI played 1st match in season and won the IPL 2015. Can they replicate the same result in Dream11 IPL 2020?
